History

The department of Information Technology was established in the year 2001 to offer B.Tech (Information Technology) programme with a sanctioned in-take of 40. In the year 2002, the sanctioned in-take became 60. Mission of the B.Tech. (IT) programme is to prepare students for employment in IT related industries and / or for the pursuit of advanced degrees in the faculty of Information & communication Engineering.

The department has an impressive band of faculty with highly qualified and experienced faculty. The faculties have specialization in Networking, Algorithms, Data Mining, Mobile Computing, Grid Computing, Image Processing, Software Engineering, Computer graphics, Web Technology, Embedded systems, etc.

The department has three well equipped laboratories including a laboratory exclusively for carrying out project and research activities. The students utilize these labs to perform experiments prescribed for laboratories like Operating System, Networking, Systems Programming Lab, Software Engineering Lab, Multimedia and Graphics Lab, DBMS, etc.

The department is also offering a Post Graduate Programme - M.E. (Computer & Communication) since 2010 with an annual intake of 18. In the academic year 2013-2014 it has been renamed as M.Tech (Information Technology).

The department has close interaction with various leading industries and educational institutions. Department also offer many value added educational programs to the students including industry certification like Oracle, Redhat Linux Certification etc. Further the students are trained in appearing for AMCAT a test considered as a phase-I for recruitment by leading industries. The students are also trained via Infosys Campus Connect programme due to an MoU signed with the company. Alumni from the department are placed in top IT industries including TCS, Wipro, Infosys, CTS, HCL, and Flextronics.

An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and information science in advance level

An ability to design a Information system with components and processes to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

An ability to identify and modify the functions of the internals of information processing system

An ability to apply Software Engineering principles, techniques and tools in software development

An ability to create, collect, process, view, organize, store, mine and retrieve information both in local and remote locations in a secure and effective manner

An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret information to lay a foundation for solving complex problems

An ability to engage in life-long learning to acquire knowledge of contemporary issues in IT domain to meet the challenges in the career

An ability to apply the skills and techniques in information technology and interdisciplinary

domains for providing solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context

An ability to develop IT research skills and innovative ideas

An ability to model the IT real world problems and to address and share the research issues

An ability to share their IT knowledge and express their ideas in any technical forum

An ability to present their ideas to prepare for a position to educate and guide others
